CPAC Releases Tennessee Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Steadfastly Conservative Legislature

ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 5, 2023) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that Tennessee Republicans generally held firmly to their conservative voting patterns, scoring slightly above their 2022 average. Democrat scores, on the other hand, tumbled below 10%, a 23% drop since 2020.

“Tennessee Republicans and Governor Bill Lee have once again scored among most conservative in the country by proving to be ready and willing to act fast against the sweeping influence of the woke Leftists.” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Their efforts to fight racism through CRT in schools, the infiltration of ESG into government pensions, and the radical gender agenda are examples that other states must follow.”

CPAC recognizes several Tennessee state legislators for their conservative voting records. The following members of the Tennessee State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session.

Senate:

Rusty Crowe (91%)

John Stevens (91%)

Janice Bowling (90%)

House:

Ed Butler (92%)

Brock Martin (92%)

Mike Sparks (92%)

Bryan Richey (91%)

Additionally, many lawmakers in the Tennessee State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. Their names have been highlighted in gray on the scorecard.

The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Tennessee address school choice, government spending, parental rights in education, and national security. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Tennessee legislature.

The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
