CPAC Releases Arkansas Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a State Overflowing with Strong Conservative Policy.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 24, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that Arkansas’ Republican legislators voted more conservatively this session than their past general session, an increase reflected in the substantial amount of conservative policy passed by Republicans in 2023. By contrast, overall Democrat scores fell below 10%, the lowest they have ever been in the nine sessions Arkansas has been scored.

“What a difference a Governor makes. The shakeup from Governor Asa Hutchinson to Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has successfully transformed Arkansas into a haven for conservative policy,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Under her leadership, Republican legislators passed tax cuts, school choice, crackdowns on government mandates, and helped lead the fight against wokeness in education.”

CPAC recognizes the following members of the Arkansas State Legislature for earning CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session.

Senate:

Jim Dotson (96%)

House:

David Ray (93%)

Rick Beck (92%)

Rebecca Burkes (92%)

Justin Gonzales (92%)

Austin McCollum (92%)

Richard Womack (92%)

Additionally, many lawmakers in the Arkansas State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. Their names are highlighted in gray on the scorecard.

The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Arkansas address radical gender ideology, the ESG agenda, and tax cuts. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and upholding the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Arkansas legislature.

The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
