ACU Foundation Releases Latest Scores of Arkansas State Legislature

The Arkansas State Legislature is one of the most conservative legislatures in the nation, according to the American Conservative Union Foundation’s most recent annual ratings of state legislatures.

The American Conservative Union Foundation conducts an annual, in-depth analysis to rate all 8,000 lawmakers in America, revealing their positions on a wide variety of issues directly affecting our communities and families.

The state’s rating was helped in large part by Democrats in the state legislature who received an average score of forty-eight percent — significantly higher than where Democrats are scoring in other states. Arkansas Democrats have withstood the pressure to cave to the national Democrat agenda, which is far too extreme for Arkansas voters.

Arkansas is also an example to other states for fiscal planning and establishing a rainy day fund, which is one of the reasons the state’s economic position was relatively stable during last year’s pandemic.

Thanks to the state legislature’s commonsense approach to policy, and its refusal to buy into Washington’s radical agenda, the state may wind up in the top spot for most conservative state legislature, according to ACUF’s preliminary analysis.

The Arkansas legislature is in a great position to continue protecting individual liberty and economic freedom, and we need your help to keep it that way.

New Arkansas Legislature Ranks as a Top Conservative State in New Analysis

Alexandria, VA—Lawmakers of the Arkansas Legislature kept alive a streak as one of the most conservative state legislatures in the country, according to new analysis by ACUF, the host of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Arkansas has previously ranked as the second-most conservative legislature behind Tennessee. Early results from the 2020 analysis indicate Arkansas will be in the running for Most Conservative Legislature in the country.

Arkansas lawmakers maintained a 71% average conservative score, meaning lawmakers voted for the conservative position on roughly 7 of 10 votes scored by ACUF. While Arkansas Republicans (78%) scored 16 points below 2019’s most conservative Republican conference (Wisconsin, 94%), the overall average score was buoyed by Arkansas Democrats (48.5%) who outscored their Massachusetts (1.6%) and New York (3.9%) counterparts by nearly 50 points.

“Arkansas is a rarity among state legislatures in that Republicans and Democrats actually share some of the same sensibilities about good governance,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. “The budgetary session saw wise financial planning during the economic shutdown and conservatives won a key vote to deliver the tax cuts that were promised in 2019. We encourage conservative and liberal lawmakers alike to continue their efforts to advance reforms that lift government burdens from taxpayers.”

ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions on a wide variety of issues that directly affect citizens.

ACU Foundation reviewed each piece of legislation voted on in both chambers of the legislature to produce average scores of each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member.
