The American Conservative Union Foundation conducts an annual, in-depth analysis to rate all 8,000 lawmakers in America, revealing their positions on a wide variety of issues directly affecting our communities and families.

New Analysis Reveals Trending More Conservative 

 

ALEXANDRIA, VA (April 20, 2022)— The American Conservative Union and CPAC have recognized ten state lawmakers for their conservative voting records off a just released analysis covering the 2021 year by ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability.

The following members of the Mississippi Legislature earned either the Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time or the Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time:


Senate:

Sen. Chris McDaniel (85%)

Sen. Melanie Sojourner (84%)

Sen. Jason Barrett (80%)

Sen. Joseph Seymour (80%)

Sen. Bart Williams (80%) 


House:

Rep. Steve Hopkins (96%)

Rep. Joel Bomgar (88%)

Rep. Dana Criswell (88%)

Rep. Dan Eubanks (88%)

Rep. Chris Brown (87%)


The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) analysis reveals Mississippi voting more conservatively during the 2021 session, with Senate Republicans’ voting with the conservative position an average of 74.4% of the time, compared to 59.6% the prior session and House Republicans’ voting with the conservative position an average of 71.2% of the time, compared to 66.7% the prior session.

Among the 44 roll call votes scored by the ACUF is the legislation strengthening election integrity (SB 2588), protecting Second Amendment rights by preventing local gun control (SB 2107), ensuring care to incarcerated pregnant women to protect life (HB 196), and protecting women’s sports (SB 2435).

ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF)’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA).
