CPAC Releases West Virginia Legislative Scorecard, Revealing Increased Scores and Conservative Success

ALEXANDRIA, VA (June 8, 2023) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that West Virginia lawmakers increased the state’s overall conservative rating over the previous year. Both chambers took a conservative approach to legislating, raising the average percentage of times each member voted conservatively by four points from the previous session.

“West Virginia has gone from a Democrat state to a Republican state, to now a leading conservative state,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp.  “Their defense of parental rights in education and protection of the unborn led to impressive scores and an overall improvement from the previous year.”

Several West Virginia state legislators are recognized by CPAC for their conservative voting records based on a just-released analysis from CPAC Foundation’s Center for Legislative Accountability.

The following members of the West Virginia State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2022 session:

Robert L. Karnes (100%)

Rollan Roberts (100%)

Mike Azinger (94%)

Craig Blair (94%)

Donna Boley (94%)

Charles H. Clements (94%)

Patrick Martin (94%)

Mark Maynard (94%)

Chandler Swope (94%)

Tom Takubo (94%)

Jack Woodrum (94%)

Patricia Rucker (93%)

Jonathan Pinson (100%)

Laura Kimble (96%)

Chris Pritt (96%)

Pat McGeehan (95%)

Adam Burkhammer (91%)

Todd Longanacre (91%)

Roger Conley (91%)

Geoff Foster (91%)

Marty Gearheart (91%)

Caleb Hanna (91%)

Mike Honaker (91%)

Gary Howell (90%)

Additionally, a large number of lawmakers in the West Virginia State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2022 session.

The bills featured in CPAC’s 2022 Ratings of West Virginia address election integrity, school choice, parental rights, and tax reform. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the West Virginia legislature.

The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
